Bioidentical Hormone Replacement · Anchorage, Alaska
Testosterone Pellet Therapy
Steady, long-lasting testosterone from a single quick in-office visit every few months — so you can stop thinking about your hormones and get back to living.
The Basics
What is pellet therapy?
Testosterone pellets are tiny cylinders — about the size of a grain of rice — made from bioidentical testosterone, meaning it is molecularly identical to the hormone your body produces. The powdered hormone is pressed together with a small amount of stearic acid, a natural binding agent, to form each pellet.
Placed just beneath the skin, the pellets dissolve slowly and release testosterone into your bloodstream gradually over the following months. The result is steady hormone levels without the peaks and dips of more frequent dosing, and no daily or weekly routine to keep up with.
Symptoms pellets may help address
- Fatigue and low energy
- Low sex drive
- Low mood, irritability, or anxiousness
- Poor sleep
- Loss of muscle and strength
- Weight gain around the midsection
- Declining bone density
Our Method
The Biote® Method
Basecamp Medical provides pellet therapy using the Biote Method, a structured approach to bioidentical hormone replacement in which providers receive specialized training in pellet dosing and insertion.
Biote pellets are custom compounded in pharmacies within the United States, and each one is tested for potency, sterility, and endotoxins before it reaches a patient. Your dose is calculated from your own labs, symptoms, and health history — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Why Pellets
Set it, and get on with your life
01
Long-lasting
One insertion typically lasts 4–6 months, depending on your dose and metabolism.
02
Steady levels
Gradual release helps avoid the highs and lows that can come with periodic dosing.
03
No routine
No weekly injections, no daily creams, and nothing to transfer to a partner or child.
04
Personalized dose
Pellet number and strength are calculated for you from comprehensive lab work.
The Ascent
How pellet therapy works
Consultation & Labs
We review your symptoms and run a comprehensive hormone panel.
Results Review
Your provider walks through your labs and decides whether pellets are right for you.
Pellet Insertion
A quick in-office visit — numbing, a tiny incision, and a small bandage.
Follow-Up
Labs after insertion fine-tune your dose, and we plan your next visit before symptoms return.
Insertion Day
What the procedure is like
During your visit
- Takes about 10–15 minutes
- The area — usually the upper hip — is cleaned and numbed
- A tiny incision is made and the pellets are placed beneath the skin
- The site is closed with adhesive strips and a small bandage
- No stitches, and most men drive themselves home
Aftercare
- Avoid strenuous lower-body exercise for several days
- Skip baths, hot tubs, and swimming until the site heals
- Keep the bandage clean and dry as directed
- Mild bruising or tenderness is normal and fades quickly
- Call us about redness, warmth, drainage, or a pellet working its way out
What to Expect
A gradual climb, not a switch
First changes
Many men begin noticing improvements in energy, mood, sleep, and sex drive.
Follow-up labs
We check your levels to confirm the dose is right and plan any adjustments for next time.
Full optimization
Benefits continue to build, and body composition changes become more noticeable with training and nutrition.
Next insertion
As pellets dissolve, earlier symptoms may start to return — your cue that it's time for your next visit.
Individual results vary. Timelines reflect general patterns, not guarantees.
Safety First
Side effects & ongoing monitoring
Pellet therapy is well tolerated by most men when properly dosed and monitored. Because a pellet can't be adjusted once it's placed, careful dosing and follow-up labs matter even more.
Possible side effects
- Bruising, tenderness, or rarely infection at the insertion site
- Pellet extrusion (a pellet working its way out)
- Increased red blood cell count (hematocrit)
- Acne or oily skin
- Breast tenderness from elevated estrogen
- Reduced sperm production and fertility
What we monitor
- Total and free testosterone
- Hematocrit and hemoglobin
- Estradiol
- PSA and prostate health
- Blood pressure
- How you actually feel
Planning to have children? Testosterone therapy can lower fertility. We discuss this in detail before you start.

| Frequency | Every 4–6 months | Typically weekly or twice weekly |
| Hormone levels | Steady, gradual release | Steady with frequent, smaller doses |
| Dose adjustments | Made at the next insertion | Can be adjusted anytime |
| Best for | Men who want convenience and no routine | Men who want precise, flexible control |
Questions
Pellet therapy FAQs
Does pellet insertion hurt?
The area is numbed first, so most men feel only a brief pinch from the numbing medication and some pressure during placement. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is common.
How long do pellets last?
Most men return every 4–6 months. How long yours last depends on your dose, metabolism, and activity level — very active men often metabolize pellets faster.
Do I have to come in person?
Yes, for the insertion itself. Your consultation, lab review, and follow-up can be handled through our telehealth and concierge services.
What are the pellets made of?
Bioidentical testosterone combined with a small amount of stearic acid, which binds the hormone into a solid pellet. The pellet dissolves completely, so there's nothing to remove.
When can I work out again?
Upper-body work is usually fine soon after, but avoid strenuous lower-body exercise for several days so the site can heal and the pellets stay in place. We'll give you specific instructions at your visit.
Will pellet therapy affect my fertility?
It can. Like all testosterone therapy, pellets may reduce sperm production. If children are in your plans, tell us during your consultation.
What happens if I stop?
The pellets simply dissolve over time. As levels fall, earlier symptoms may return, and your body's own production may take time to recover. We'll guide you through it.
